1950’s

In the post war economy, it was the commercial broadcast business that allowed McIntosh to get its start. From there the company moved into the hi-fi market quickly.

In 1950, Gordon Gow was named Executive Vice President and the company launched its first preamplifier, the AE-1. McIntosh introduced the A116 power amplifier and the C108 preamplifier in ’53 and followed with the MC30 power amplifier and the C4 preamplifier the following year. In 1956, all this growth signaled the need for more space and the company moved to its current location of 2 Chambers Street, Binghamton, NY.

McIntosh lost no time and their first tuner, the AM-FM Model MR55 was introduced in 1957.
